Arc Raiders’ Battle Pass Won’t Be Totally Free Anymore, But It’ll Pay For Itself

Arc Raiders’ next major update, Frozen Trail, launches October 8 with significant new content, though the game’s monetization model is evolving.

The free update introduces a new Reward Pass system replacing the existing Raider Decks progression. While all players receive a Free Pass, a paid premium track will cost 1,150 Raider Tokens (approximately $10 USD), offering additional cosmetics and in-game rewards.

Content additions are extensive. Players will explore Pendola Pass, a snow-capped mountain region featuring a small village, Exodus transport hub, and a massive fallen Emperor corpse dominating the landscape. The map introduces a “Flash Freeze” condition that punishes extended outdoor exposure.

Three new ARC enemy types arrive: the Frigate, a massive airborne carrier positioned as an “extremely high-stakes challenge” that cannot be fully destroyed; the Bully, a four-legged creature employing hit-and-run tactics; and the Skulker, a small enemy type. Additional content includes a new weapon tier, Raider Dens, customizable Outposts players can decorate, and new equipment.

The skill tree receives a significant overhaul. Rather than unlocking all abilities, players must now make meaningful choices between different skills—a design change Embark Studios believes “creates more interesting choices and supports more playstyles.”

The update represents a strategic shift for Embark Studios, which has moved away from smaller monthly updates in favor of larger releases twice yearly. This follows a period where Arc Raiders’ initial player momentum declined as previous smaller updates disappointed the community. Whether Frozen Trail’s substantial content reverses that trend remains uncertain, though early indications suggest cautious optimism from players.
