High On Life Is Helping Make The Case For Bigger Games On Quest
High on Life, the successful 2022 title known for its humor, distinctive motormouth guns, and polished gameplay, is being adapted for virtual reality. Flat2VR Studios and Squanch Games are collaborating to bring the game to Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S headsets, marking an effort to demonstrate that larger, more ambitious games can succeed on VR platforms.
The project is still in its early stages of development. Flat2VR, a studio with experience porting games to VR, is leading the technical adaptation work. Emily O’Neal serves as the game director for the VR version, while Eric Masher, co-founder and chief operating officer of Impact Reality and Flat2VR Studios, oversees the project from the production side.
This port represents an interesting test case for the VR industry. High on Life’s original success was built on engaging gameplay mechanics and distinctive writing, elements that require careful translation to the VR medium. The collaboration suggests that publishers are increasingly willing to invest in VR versions of successful titles, potentially opening doors for more substantial gaming experiences on mobile VR platforms.
