Sensor Tower: PC and PlayStation unit sales in Japan rise 13% to 21m during H1 2026, led by Resident Evil Requiem
PC and PlayStation game unit sales in Japan surged 13% year-over-year during the first half of 2026, reaching 21 million units, according to Sensor Tower’s latest Japan Game Market Insights report. The growth was largely driven by Capcom’s Resident Evil Requiem, which became the leading title during the period.
Resident Evil Requiem demonstrated exceptional performance on Steam, achieving the franchise’s strongest first-month debut on the platform with an estimated 2.6 million units sold. This milestone underscores the platform’s accelerating importance within Japan’s premium gaming market, providing developers like Capcom with direct access to a substantial audience.
Capcom secured the top position among PC and PlayStation publishers by total units sold during the half-year period. The publisher’s success reflects both the strength of the Resident Evil franchise and its strategic investment in Steam distribution for Japanese-developed games. The data from Sensor Tower covers only Steam and PlayStation platforms, representing a significant segment of Japan’s gaming market.
