Total War: Warhammer’s biggest ever campaign is now $9, but what do actually you get for that?
Total War: Warhammer 3’s Lords of the End Times DLC launches September 24 with a novel monetization strategy. Players who purchase any single lord faction ($9)—Boris, Thanquol, Nagash, or The Glottkin—immediately unlock Immortal Empires, the trilogy-spanning grand campaign featuring all content developed over the past decade across all three Warhammer games.
Regardless of which lord players choose, they receive a free Bretonnia faction as a bonus, complete with a full unit roster and four legendary lords including Louen Leoncouer and Alberic De Bordeleaux.
A standout feature debuts with Nagash: rather than a traditional tech tree, his faction uses “The Black Pyramid,” a complex web of personal enhancements inspired by Path of Exile’s passive skill tree system. The upgrade maze is intricate enough to include its own search function, effectively introducing action RPG-style progression mechanics into the strategy game format.
The DLC represents Creative Assembly’s aggressive attempt to make the trilogy’s complete campaign experience accessible through a minimal entry price point, while the Black Pyramid system demonstrates the developer experimenting with unconventional progression systems to differentiate faction gameplay.
