Beyond Good & Evil 2 Is Still Alive, and Just Added an Assassin’s Creed Shadows Writer
Beyond Good & Evil 2 remains in active development at Ubisoft, despite being one of the longest-running projects in gaming history. Initially announced 18 years ago and re-announced at E3 2016, the sci-fi fantasy sequel continues to progress, though Ubisoft has not revealed a release timeframe.
The studio recently bolstered its creative team by bringing on Rik Godwin, lead writer and associate narrative director at Ubisoft Bordeaux, who joined the project several months ago in a support and consultant capacity. Godwin also contributes to other major Ubisoft franchises, including Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Ghost Recon.
Ubisoft Bordeaux, founded in 2017, typically functions as a support studio for larger projects across the publisher’s portfolio. The team’s involvement signals ongoing commitment to Beyond Good & Evil 2’s development.
This announcement comes months after Ubisoft’s significant restructuring earlier in 2026, which resulted in the cancellation of multiple titles, including the Prince of Persia remake. However, the Beyond Good & Evil 2 team emerged from this reorganization intact. Following the restructuring, the game’s director reaffirmed that development was continuing, marking the most recent substantive update on the project’s status prior to the revelation of Godwin’s involvement.
