Review: Cherry Xtrfy K63W: Ultra-Wideband Wireless Tech Comes to Gaming Keyboards

Cherry Xtrfy has introduced the K63W, a gaming keyboard featuring ultra-wideband (UWB) wireless technology, marking the first major gaming peripheral to adopt this advancement. Ultra-wideband operates on higher, less-congested electromagnetic frequencies compared to the standard 2.4GHz connectivity commonly used in wireless gaming peripherals, offering improved reliability and performance at higher polling rates.

The K63W features an 8K polling rate, significantly higher than most wireless keyboards on the market. This high polling rate should deliver more responsive input and reduced latency for gaming, with the advantages enabled by UWB’s wider frequency bandwidth and efficient data transmission.

The shift toward UWB represents the next evolution in wireless gaming peripherals, following a decade-long transition from wired to wireless connections as transmission technologies matured. Manufacturers are now exploring more advanced wireless standards for high-end devices. UWB’s reliability at higher polling rates makes it particularly attractive for competitive gaming, where input responsiveness is critical.

The K63W’s introduction suggests UWB technology may become increasingly common in high-end gaming peripherals, potentially setting a new standard for wireless gaming input devices.
