Apple, Nvidia, Google, Microsoft…pretty much all the big US players in the chip business are reportedly evaluating Intel’s new 14A node
Intel is reportedly attracting significant interest from major US chip manufacturers for its upcoming 14A process node. According to investment bank Piper Sandler, companies including Amazon, Apple, AMD, Google, Tesla, Microsoft, Nvidia, and Qualcomm are all currently evaluating Intel’s new advanced manufacturing technology.
The report suggests that Intel’s 14A node represents a potential turning point for the company’s foundry business, marking what could be a lucrative new era. The evaluations by such a prominent roster of industry leaders indicate growing confidence in Intel’s technical capabilities as it pursues an “anchor customer”—a major commitment to validate its manufacturing processes at scale.
Intel has undergone significant strategic transformation in recent years, investing heavily in its foundry services division to position itself as a contract chip manufacturer for external customers, rather than solely producing its own processors. This shift represents a major pivot from its historical business model. The interest from major chip designers and companies suggests that Intel’s advanced manufacturing nodes are approaching commercial viability and may offer competitive advantages comparable to established foundry leaders.
According to the report, technical datapoints for the 14A process are trending favorably, though broader commercial adoption will likely depend on securing binding commitments from one or more of these evaluating companies. The successful adoption of the 14A node could significantly strengthen Intel’s competitive position in the foundry market and generate substantial new revenue streams.
