King averts strikes by signing agreement with Swedish unions
King, the Swedish video game developer and publisher best known for Candy Crush, has averted a threatened strike after signing a collective bargaining agreement with two Swedish unions. The agreement, signed with Unionen and the Engineers of Sweden, was finalized just hours before strikes were scheduled to commence at King’s Stockholm and Malmo offices on September 25.
The agreement concludes negotiations that have spanned over a year between the parties. The Engineers of Sweden, representing approximately 100 of King’s roughly 550 employees across the two offices, led the labor discussions. Under the new collective bargaining agreement, King employees will gain enhanced opportunities to influence their working conditions, formal rights to organize, and guarantees of timely information regarding workplace changes—key protections that labor representatives had sought throughout the negotiation process.
The resolution represents a significant victory for organized labor in Sweden’s gaming sector and reflects broader global conversations about workers’ rights and conditions in the video game industry.
