Meta announces new VR glasses that weigh about 100 grams and cost $1,300

Meta has announced the Meta VR Glasses, a lightweight virtual reality device set to launch in Spring 2027 at $1,300. The glasses weigh approximately 100 grams—roughly five times lighter than Meta’s Quest 3—and represent a significant shift in VR hardware design philosophy.

The device features micro-OLED displays with pancake lenses and a 70-degree field of view. Rather than relying on controllers or straps, the glasses use hand tracking and passthrough technology for navigation and interaction. The processing power, battery, and storage are housed in a pocket-sized puck connected to the glasses via an optical tether, allowing users to clip it conveniently to their pocket or bag.

The compute puck contains a Qualcomm Snapdragon Reality Elite chipset, 12GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage. Meta has pitched the device as comfortable for extended wear, targeting users who prioritize portability and visual quality.

The glasses will launch with support for several game franchises, including new titles in Tetris Effect, Beat Saber, and Capcom’s Ace Attorney series. The $1,300 price point positions the Meta VR Glasses as a premium device, marking a departure from Meta’s historically budget-oriented VR offerings.
