INTERVIEW: Copilot+ PC branding is gone — and Microsoft isn’t saying much about why
Microsoft has discontinued the “Copilot+ PC” branding it launched in 2024 with Qualcomm to represent a new category of AI-first Windows computers with exclusive features and specific system requirements.
The initiative struggled from its inception. Security researchers quickly identified critical vulnerabilities in Recall, the headline AI feature designed to differentiate Copilot+ PCs. These security flaws forced Microsoft to delay Recall’s release, preventing the company from shipping Copilot+ devices with their flagship differentiating capability.
The Copilot+ PC branding has now been abandoned entirely, though Microsoft has not publicly disclosed its reasoning. The discontinuation suggests that persistent security concerns with Recall and poor market reception combined to prompt the company to abandon the brand.
