Call Of Duty Is Finally Giving Players What They Want
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will introduce a highly requested operator skin toggle when it integrates with Warzone in Season 1, allowing players to customize what cosmetic skins they see in-game.
The toggle works at the client level, meaning players can choose to display only Modern Warfare 4 operators while replacing skins from previous games (Modern Warfare 2, Modern Warfare 3, Black Ops 6, and Black Ops 7) with default MW4 appearances. Importantly, this setting only affects what individual players see—it doesn’t impact other players’ experiences or the cosmetics they’ve equipped. A player’s own selected operator skin remains visible to them regardless of the toggle state.
This feature addresses a persistent complaint from the community about the proliferation of thematically incongruous cosmetic crossovers, including branded characters like Beavis and Butt-Head. These “goofy” or “clowny” skins have accumulated over years of seasonal content, with some players seeking immersion and thematic consistency while others enjoy the chaotic cosmetic variety.
Alongside the cosmetic toggle, Activision is implementing a “Carry Forward” system that lets players retain access to weapons and cosmetics from previous Call of Duty titles within Warzone. Players can still use and fully customize weapons from MW2, MW3, BO6, and BO7, with legacy weapons designated as usable but with certain limitations in battle royale.
Notably, Modern Warfare 4 itself won’t carry cosmetics from prior games—it’s designed as a fresh aesthetic start. The toggle represents a middle-ground solution that accommodates both players seeking immersive, cohesive aesthetics and those who prefer retaining their accumulated cosmetic investments across game titles.
