‘Have You Heard How Much Money Kojima Wanted?’: Physint’s Rumoured Budget Said to Be ‘Significant’
Physint, the stealth action game in development at Kojima Productions, experienced a significant funding shift this month when PlayStation withdrew its support. Originally announced in 2024, the project had been in active development with Sony’s backing. However, sources indicate that Hideo Kojima was demanding a substantial budget commitment to complete the game, prompting Sony to reconsider its investment.
Despite Kojima Productions retaining full ownership of the intellectual property and planning to release Physint across multiple gaming platforms, Sony apparently determined that the financial commitment had become too significant for its current strategy. The company publicly announced its exit from the project earlier in September 2026.
Microsoft and Xbox have now stepped in to fund and publish the game, continuing its development. However, industry sources suggest that Microsoft’s proposed budget allocation for Physint may be considerably lower than the amount Sony was considering. This financial difference could potentially influence the game’s scope, representing a more streamlined development approach compared to the original vision.
The shift highlights the complex dynamics between independent creators and platform-holding publishers, particularly when intellectual property ownership and multi-platform ambitions are involved.
