PlayStation Portal Update Boosts Long-Term Battery Health
Sony has released PlayStation Portal software update version 7.1.7, which brings a new feature to improve long-term battery health. The headline addition is an 80% charge limit that is set by default on the portable device. This charging threshold can be adjusted by users if they prefer different settings.
The new battery management feature is the latest in a series of updates for PlayStation Portal. In March, the device received a 1080p High Quality mode for Remote Play and Cloud Streaming, which prioritizes video quality while increasing data consumption. The September 7.1.7 update continues Sony’s efforts to enhance the handheld’s performance and longevity.
By implementing the 80% default charge limit, PlayStation Portal users will benefit from improved battery health over the device’s lifetime. The feature is designed to reduce wear on the battery when left charging for extended periods, a practical improvement for a portable device. Users retain the flexibility to modify the charge limit according to their preferences and usage patterns, reflecting Sony’s approach to balancing hardware durability with user choice.
