New Saw Movie Taps Mike P. Nelson to Direct
The next Saw film has secured director Mike P. Nelson, an emerging horror filmmaker known for the Wrong Turn reboot and the Silent Night, Deadly Night remake. The screenplay comes from Gregory Weidman and Geoff Tock, as Lionsgate moves forward with its latest entry in the long-running franchise.
The production reunites several established horror industry figures as producers: James Wan, Jason Blum, and Leigh Whannell. Wan and Whannell originally developed the Saw series as a short film before expanding it into an influential low-budget horror franchise that spawned multiple sequels. Wan has since largely departed from the series following the third film, transitioning to direct acclaimed horror properties like Insidious and The Conjuring, as well as major studio blockbusters including Aquaman.
Nelson’s appointment signals Lionsgate’s strategy to inject fresh creative vision into the franchise while retaining the expertise of veteran producers. James Wan is expected to assume a more substantial role in the upcoming installment as the studio seeks to revitalize the long-running series.
