Thief 2 Remastered should be Thief 2 Gold
Nightdive Studios’ remaster of the original Thief is in development and will include a new expansion campaign titled “The Tarnished Mirror.” The studio has already drawn significant praise for its thoughtful approach to remastering the classic stealth title, with its treatment described as “well-judged but deceptively transformative.”
Looking ahead to when Nightdive eventually takes on Thief 2: The Metal Age, industry observers are hoping for the release of “Thief 2 Gold”—a GOTY edition based on archived plans from the original developer, Looking Glass Studios. According to historical documentation, a planned GOTY version of Thief 2 would have included five additional missions that never made it into the original release.
Nightdive’s established track record provides reason for optimism. The studio maintains customary access to video game industry archives and relationships with original Looking Glass Studios personnel. This combination of resources positions Nightdive to authentically develop and realize these previously unrealized mission concepts with a level of quality and authenticity that even the most skilled fan mission creators have struggled to match independently.
