Colourful JRPG Armed Fantasia has been cancelled, four years after a successful Kickstarter campaign descended into delays and lawsuits
Armed Fantasia, a colorful JRPG spiritual successor to the PS2-era Wild Arms series, has been cancelled. The game was led by Akifumi Kaneko, the original series’ producer, and had been in development following a successful Kickstarter campaign launched in 2022. The cancellation was announced by Digital Bros—the parent company of publisher 505 Games—in a financial statement disclosing the discontinuation of development on multiple titles.
The project’s journey was notably turbulent. According to the story’s headline, the four-year period following its Kickstarter success was marked by significant delays and legal disputes. These complications ultimately led to the decision to halt development entirely.
This cancellation was not isolated; Digital Bros announced the discontinuation of development on several other projects simultaneously, including a sequel to the F2P strategy game Battle Islands and the action RPG Directorate Novitiate, which had already been revealed to be defunct in May of this year.
Armed Fantasia’s cancellation represents another setback for the crowdfunding gaming space, where projects often struggle to deliver on their initial promises. The circumstances surrounding its demise—involving legal action and extended delays—underscore the challenges faced by independent developers and smaller publishers in bringing ambitious projects to completion.
