After nearly 19 years in development hell, Ubisoft’s Beyond Good & Evil 2 is somehow still showing signs of life
Ubisoft’s long-troubled Beyond Good & Evil 2 continues its unlikely existence in active development, nearly 18 years after its 2008 announcement. Rik Godwin, lead writer and associate narrative director at Ubisoft Bordeaux, confirmed on September 22 that he has been working on the game for several months in a support and consultant capacity, having verified with Ubisoft for permission to share the news.
The game has been notorious for languishing in development hell for nearly two decades, with minimal public updates or progress reports. However, fresh signs of life have emerged periodically—a job posting appeared last year, and in June, Ubisoft brand director Loïc Gounon reiterated that the project remains in active development, though without substantial details.
Godwin’s social media announcement serves as another oblique confirmation that the project survives, even if progress remains opaque. Previously known for his work as a writer on Assassin’s Creed Shadows, his involvement suggests Ubisoft is allocating resources to move the project forward. For players who have waited nearly two decades for a sequel, even this minimal confirmation represents noteworthy news about a franchise that has remained stubbornly alive despite overwhelming odds.
