Brandon Sanderson’s New Cosmere Book Gets Exclusive New Reveal

Brandon Sanderson has introduced Hoid’s Travails, a new series designed to make his sprawling Cosmere universe more accessible to new readers. The Cosmere encompasses multiple interconnected worlds including Scadrial, Roshar, Sel, and Nalthis, each featuring complex magic systems and characters that cross over between series like Mistborn, The Stormlight Archive, Elantris, and Warbreaker.

The accessibility challenge posed by the interconnected nature of these works inspired Sanderson to create standalone novels that can be read in any order without prior Cosmere knowledge. Two books have already been released in the series: Tress of the Emerald Sea and Yumi and the Nightmare Painter, both in 2023. The primary connection these standalone works maintain to the larger Cosmere is through Hoid, a mysterious storytelling trickster character who appears throughout most of Sanderson’s works.

This approach offers an entry point for readers interested in experiencing Sanderson’s world-building and narrative complexity without committing to the extensive multi-book series that comprise the core Cosmere, potentially broadening the author’s readership.
