GTA veteran’s MindsEye studio Build a Rocket Boy has entered administration, following yet more reports of layoffs

Build A Rocket Boy, the studio founded by GTA veteran Leslie Benzies in 2016, has entered administration after filing with the UK government on September 25. The move indicates the company is insolvent and unable to continue operations without legal protection. Opus Advisory Group has been appointed as the company’s administrator and will determine whether the studio can be sold, liquidated, or shut down entirely.

The administration filing follows another wave of layoffs at the studio just over a week prior, with employees reporting the company’s dire financial situation. Build A Rocket Boy’s troubles stem largely from the poor reception of MindsEye, a shooter that launched in 2025 to unfavorable reviews—approximately 15 months before the administration filing.

MindsEye was originally conceived as part of Everywhere, an ambitious user-generated content platform announced in 2022 that promised to redefine how players connect with one another and the digital world. The project’s trajectory has been marked by delays, changes in scope, and internal challenges. The studio has previously attributed its struggles to alleged “saboteurs,” though this explanation has done little to stabilize the company’s situation.

The appointment of administrators represents the final stages of what has been a tumultuous period for Build A Rocket Boy. With the company unable to meet its financial obligations and facing continued losses, the formal insolvency procedure suggests closure or sale is likely imminent.
