Demacia Cup Global Invitational: Schedule, Teams, and Format

Riot Games has announced the inaugural Demacia Cup Global Invitational, a new international League of Legends esports tournament launching next month. The event provides competitive opportunities for the region’s top teams that narrowly missed qualifying for Worlds 2026.

The 12-team tournament brings together squads from six major competitive regions: LCK (Korea), LPL (China), LEC (Europe), LCS (North America), LCP (Pacific), and CBLOL (Brazil). Each competing team finished in 4th through 7th place in their respective regional qualifiers, creating a field of highly skilled organizations that fell just short of Worlds qualification.

The tournament structure features a Swiss-stage format with all matches played online. In the opening round, teams are randomly paired against each other in best-of-one matches, with a specific constraint: teams from the same region cannot face each other in the first round. This format ensures diverse matchups while maintaining competitive fairness.

The Demacia Cup represents Riot Games’ expansion of the esports ecosystem beyond the traditional Worlds championship. By creating meaningful competitive opportunities for second-tier regional teams, the event ensures that top talent still has access to international competition even when missing the main event, providing valuable experience and prestige for teams entering next season’s qualifying campaigns.
