Here’s Why Fortnite Sucks This Season

Fortnite’s Chapter 7 Season 4 is struggling with an oversaturation of gameplay mechanics that are fundamentally undermining the core Battle Royale experience. The season introduces two major systems—sprites that grant bonus abilities to all players and Overrides that fundamentally alter how matches function mid-game—alongside numerous other mechanics that randomly appear (or don’t appear) during individual matches. This unpredictability creates an inconsistent and disorienting gameplay experience that makes it difficult for players to establish effective strategies, as there’s no stable baseline to return to or adapt around effectively.

The accumulation of these experimental features has resulted in what appears to be a significantly cluttered game state negatively impacting both the core Battle Royale mode and Fortnite’s overall player numbers. The absence of a consistent status quo makes strategic planning and player adaptation increasingly challenging, ultimately contributing to declining engagement and retention throughout the playerbase.
