Soulslike ‘Fountains’ Gets A Free Switch 2 Upgrade Pack One Week After Launch

“Fountains,” an indie Soulslike developed by solo Canadian developer John Pywell, launched on September 17 with a quick follow-up surprise: a free Nintendo Switch 2 Edition upgrade pack that arrived just one week after launch. The upgrade pack delivers enhanced performance with 120fps support on Switch 2, alongside an exclusive new “Gauntlet Mode” for the platform.

The game features a top-down perspective and pixel-art visual style reminiscent of “Hyper Light Drifter.” Development began in 2020, and the project was funded through a successful Kickstarter campaign before its commercial release. The rapid arrival of the Switch 2 upgrade demonstrates how quickly even independent developers are optimizing their titles for Nintendo’s new hardware.

This early support for Switch 2 provides players with compelling reasons to experience the game on the newer console, with the 120fps performance boost being particularly significant for action-oriented Soulslike gameplay. The exclusive Gauntlet Mode adds platform-specific content, positioning the Switch 2 version as more than just a technical enhancement.
