LoL Gameplay Lead August Admits Renata Glasc Needs a Rework

Riot Games’ League of Legends lead gameplay designer August ‘August’ Browning has acknowledged that support champion Renata Glasc is in need of a rework. Speaking on his stream, August stated that Renata could benefit from a mid-scope update—a substantial overhaul aimed at refining a champion’s mechanics and improving how the character feels to play.

Renata’s need for changes stems from persistently low pick rates that have plagued the champion for years. On Patch 26.19, Renata’s pick rate sits at just 1.18% across all tiers and regions, indicating that players rarely select her in matches.

The root cause of her unpopularity appears to be her kit’s heavy reliance on team coordination. Specifically, Renata’s W ability, Bailout, provides a revive mechanic that requires coordinated teamplay to be effective. Without proper team synergy, the ability’s potential is severely limited, making her less appealing to players who cannot guarantee the level of coordination needed for her mechanics to shine.

Mid-scope updates represent a middle ground between simple balance adjustments and full champion reworks. Rather than completely redesigning a champion, these updates polish and refine existing mechanics to make them feel better and function more intuitively within the broader game. For Renata, such an update would likely address how her coordination-dependent mechanics interact with the rest of her kit and the wider League of Legends metagame.
