Resident Evil Requiem’s made over $500m since release, but the new film didn’t have as big of an impact as Capcom’s price drops
Resident Evil Requiem has surpassed $500 million in total revenue and become the best-performing game in the franchise’s history. The milestone, reported by industry analyst Alinea Analytics, represents a significant achievement for Capcom’s survival horror series.
The game has shipped 8.5 million copies across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox platforms. However, the platform distribution reveals stark disparities in audience reach. Xbox accounts for just 8.6% of sales (approximately 731,000 copies), while PlayStation 5 and Steam collectively represent 91.4% of total sales.
Despite the release of a Resident Evil film timed with the game’s launch, sales analysis suggests the film’s marketing impact was more modest than expected. According to reports, Capcom’s aggressive price drops on the game proved more effective in driving sales momentum than the film adaptation.
The $500 million revenue milestone places Requiem ahead of all previous franchise entries and demonstrates the continued strength of the survival horror genre in the current market. The game’s success extends Capcom’s recent winning streak across multiple releases and reinforces PlayStation 5’s dominance as the primary platform for major third-party AAA titles. Xbox’s relatively small share in this major release reflects broader third-party performance struggles on Microsoft’s hardware.
