Saw Creators Return to the Franchise for New Movie from Wrong Turn Director
The Saw franchise is returning with an eleventh installment. Director Mike P. Nelson, known for helming horror reboots including Wrong Turn (2021) and Silent Night, Deadly Night (2025), has been announced as the director of the untitled project. The reveal came via a promotional video featuring Jigsaw’s iconic tricycle-riding puppet before cutting to a movie script cover.
The new film aims to return the long-running horror franchise to its original roots. The original Saw (2004) was directed by James Wan and co-created by Wan and Leigh Whannell, who established the franchise’s signature torture-puzzle aesthetic. After years away from the series, both Wan and Whannell have rejoined the project, signaling a creative return to the franchise’s foundational vision.
Nelson’s selection as director reflects the industry trend of recruiting acclaimed horror filmmakers to reimagine established franchises. With the involvement of the franchise’s original creators and a director specializing in modern horror revivals, the new Saw installment appears positioned to blend legacy appeal with contemporary horror sensibilities. The announcement arrives ahead of the fall horror season.
