Minecraft Is Getting Its First New Dimension In Over 15 Years

Minecraft is receiving its first new dimension in over 15 years, Mojang announced at Minecraft Live. The new dimension, called The Sift, will arrive in 2027 for both Java Edition and Bedrock Edition, marking the first dimensional addition since The End launched in 2011.

The Sift was originally revealed as a feature in Minecraft Dungeons 2, the upcoming Diablo-like action RPG spin-off launching September 29, 2026. The dimension will first appear in that game before being integrated into the base Minecraft experience next year.

According to Minecraft Dungeons 2 creative director Mans Olson, the team prioritized making The Sift feel distinct from existing dimensions like the Nether and The End, rather than creating another hostile environment. The dimension is described as having an ethereal appearance and will join the Overworld, the Nether, and The End as a major biome players can explore.

While full details about The Sift remain a mystery, the announcement demonstrates Mojang’s continued commitment to expanding Minecraft’s world. This marks a significant milestone for the long-running sandbox game, which remains one of the most popular titles globally across PC, console, and mobile platforms.
