Another Live Service PS5 Game Bites the Dust, But It’ll Be Transformed into an Offline Title

Bandai Namco’s PlayStation 5 live service game Synduality: Echo of Ada will be discontinued in its current form and transformed into an offline title, marking another failed attempt in the publisher’s live service gaming ventures. The game was positioned as a PvPvE extraction shooter—combining player-versus-player and player-versus-environment combat—featuring anime-styled characters and large-scale mecha battles.

The transition from live service to offline represents a significant shift for the title. Rather than shutting the game down entirely, the publisher has chosen to preserve it by removing the online infrastructure and live service elements that defined its original design. This approach allows players to continue accessing the game’s core gameplay and content, though the shift means the loss of ongoing seasonal updates and content expansion that characterized the live service model.

The discontinuation adds Synduality: Echo of Ada to a growing list of failed live service games, reflecting the difficulty publishers face in launching and sustaining this increasingly competitive gaming category. Bandai Namco’s decision to convert rather than completely sunset the title demonstrates an effort to salvage value from the investment while acknowledging the live service model’s inability to attract sufficient ongoing player engagement.
