World of Warcraft Forever’s Plan to Bring ‘Classic Plus’ to New and Old Players
Blizzard Entertainment unveiled World of Warcraft Forever at BlizzCon 2026, a long-awaited “Classic Plus” version of the iconic MMO that preserves the core experience within a deliberate time capsule. This third major iteration addresses sustained player demand for a World of Warcraft variant that captures the original game’s essence without the accumulated systems changes and expansion bloat of the past two decades.
Forever distinguishes itself from the 2004 original by layering new content alongside player-requested quality-of-life improvements. The roadmap includes new zones, quests, dungeons, and at least one previously unavailable playable race. This hybrid approach targets both veteran players nostalgic for classic WoW and newcomers encountering the franchise for the first time.
The announcement reflects Blizzard’s strategic recognition that World of Warcraft Forever fills a distinct niche in its own portfolio. It exists separately from the ongoing live-service evolution of retail World of Warcraft and the static experience of World of Warcraft Classic, which launched in 2019. By adding fresh content while resisting systematic overhaul, Forever positions itself as a middle ground—preserving the accessibility and design philosophy of early Warcraft while evolving its world at a measured pace.
