The spiritual successor to classic JRPG Wild Arms has seemingly been cancelled, four years after its Kickstarter raised nearly $3 million
Armed Fantasia, a spiritual successor to the classic JRPG series Wild Arms, has been cancelled four years after its Kickstarter campaign successfully raised nearly $3 million. Digital Bros, the parent company of publisher 505 Games, announced the decision to discontinue development in its latest financial statement, according to reports from Rock Paper Shotgun.
The project was led by Akifumi Kaneko, the original lead designer of Wild Arms who held the same position through Wild Arms 4. The game was formally announced alongside its Kickstarter campaign in 2022. Unlike typical video game Kickstarters where funds directly support development, this campaign’s funding structure was structured differently, though specifics remain unclear from the available information.
The cancellation represents a significant loss for backers who invested in the project years ago, and adds to ongoing concerns about video game development challenges and the viability of crowd-funded projects in an industry where large publishers frequently consolidate and cancel projects.
