Witcher Dev Reveals Why CD Projekt Red Doesn’t Do Crossovers In Its Own Games

CD Projekt Red maintains an asymmetrical approach to crossover content, allowing its franchises to appear in other studios’ games while keeping its own titles free of external collaborations. The Witcher and Cyberpunk properties have secured licensing deals with major titles—a Geralt-inspired Barbarian skin is coming to Diablo 4, and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners outfits will arrive in Overwatch next year. However, The Witcher 3 Remastered, despite being available on Battle.net, does not feature corresponding Diablo-inspired cosmetics for Geralt.

According to Miles Tost, Level Design Lead at CD Projekt Red, this decision stems from the studio’s commitment to content parity across all platforms. By excluding platform-specific or licensed cosmetics from their games, CD Projekt Red ensures that all players across different storefronts and regions have access to identical content regardless of where they purchase the game.

While this philosophy currently guides CD Projekt Red’s content strategy, the studio remains open to reconsidering this approach in the future. The policy reflects a balance between maximizing collaborative opportunities with other franchises and maintaining a consistent player experience across their player base.
