Dark Souls 2 can now be played in its entirety with drop-in, drop-out co-op, thanks to its own seamless multiplayer mod

Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin has received a long-awaited seamless co-op mod, completing the trilogy with this feature. The mod, created by Yui—who previously developed seamless co-op mods for Dark Souls Remastered, Dark Souls 3, Elden Ring, and Armored Core—is now available in alpha form to the public.

While Dark Souls 2 has supported co-op since release, the vanilla implementation suffers from significant limitations. The standard co-op system requires players to navigate a convoluted process and interrupts gameplay with loading screens and session disconnections, preventing seamless cooperative play with friends.

Yui’s mod addresses these longstanding issues by enabling drop-in, drop-out co-op functionality, allowing players to experience the entire game with friends without interruptions. This brings Dark Souls 2 in line with the improved co-op experiences available in later FromSoftware titles through similar community-created mods. The seamless co-op mod represents a substantial quality-of-life improvement for the community and extends the playability of the decade-old game.
