Avengers: Doomsday Directors Joke Doctor Doom Has ‘Been Planned All Along,’ Tease Iron Man Connections
The Russo Brothers, who directed Avengers: Doomsday, joked during an interview that Doctor Doom’s introduction to the Marvel Cinematic Universe was “planned all along.” New footage included in the Avengers: Endgame Encore re-release hints at the villain’s impending arrival and connections to the upcoming film.
The Endgame Encore contains additional scenes that tie into Avengers: Doomsday’s narrative. In one newly added scene, Bruce Banner isolates himself in a bunker following Spider-Man: Brand New Day and records a video message. His solitude is interrupted when Doctor Doom suddenly appears and apparently abducts him. The directors’ teases suggest Doom is orchestrating a broader scheme involving the abduction of multiple heroes across the MCU.
The new footage also addresses a long-standing fan request. The Russo Brothers revealed they had “circled” the idea of depicting Steve Rogers’ journey to return the Infinity Stones “for a long time.” In Avengers: Endgame’s finale, Rogers agrees to restore the Stones to their original places in the timeline before settling back to live peacefully with Peggy Carter. While this mission remains unseen on screen, the directors have expressed interest in showing this journey, possibly through a Disney+ series with Chris Evans.
The Endgame Encore’s new scenes confirm that Rogers’ quiet life will be disrupted by Avengers: Doomsday events, connecting the classic Avengers narrative to the upcoming film. The directors’ comments and teaser footage suggest Doctor Doom will be a major threat in the MCU’s next chapter.
