God of War Laufey Features Kratos in an Ancient Greek Setting, Sparking Speculation Over the Game’s Story — and Praise for His Big Bushy Beard

A new screenshot from the upcoming God of War game Laufey has generated significant fan speculation about the game’s narrative direction. The image, revealed via the PlayStation blog alongside preorder bonuses and digital deluxe edition information, shows the game’s protagonist Laufey standing alongside Kratos—the series’ iconic hero—in what appears to be an Ancient Greek temple setting.

The revelation raises intriguing questions about God of War lore. According to established canon, Laufey is dead and separated from Kratos, and she never visited Ancient Greece during his time there, an era that predates when the two characters met. This apparent narrative contradiction has prompted fan speculation about possible explanations, including time travel, alternate timelines, flashback sequences, or other story devices that might reconcile Laufey’s presence in an Ancient Greek setting.

This appearance is not Kratos’s first in God of War Laufey. The character was previously shown early in the game through footage released during the title’s initial reveal in June. Beyond the narrative speculation, fans have also expressed enthusiasm for Kratos’s appearance in the screenshot, with particular praise directed toward his notably full and voluminous beard.
