Backrooms Director Kane Parsons Wants a Limited Series to Pull Off Horror Franchise’s ‘Main Ending’

Kane Parsons, director of this year’s critically and commercially successful Backrooms film, has revealed that he envisions a limited series as the ideal format to bring his long-planned conclusion to the liminal space horror franchise.

While Parsons was not the original creator of the Backrooms concept—which originated as a viral 4chan greentext post—he became the franchise’s primary creative voice through his hugely popular YouTube series made entirely in Blender. This work caught the attention of A24, leading to the theatrical film adaptation that proved to be one of 2026’s most surprising horror hits.

In an interview with Deadline, Parsons emphasized that he has maintained a clear narrative arc for the Backrooms universe from the start. “There’s been a very set arc to the whole thing from the beginning,” he explained, expressing that he feels “absurdly excited at the idea of actually being able to follow through on all of it.” Parsons described a “dream scenario” for the story’s next chapter, indicating that a limited series format would best serve his vision for the franchise’s definitive ending.

The director’s strategic approach to the property’s future reflects broader trends in horror entertainment, where successful films expand across multiple media formats.
