Microsoft Teams is losing its Copilot chat list shortcut next month
Microsoft Teams will discontinue the Copilot shortcut currently visible in the chat list, with the change rolling out in mid-to-late October 2026. The modification will affect both desktop and web versions of the application.
Currently, Teams offers two distinct entry points to access Copilot: one through the chat list and another through the Copilot app in the Teams app bar. These two access methods lead to different user experiences, prompting Microsoft to streamline the interface by removing the chat list shortcut.
Microsoft announced the change through the Microsoft 365 Message Center, explaining that the removal is part of a broader initiative to consolidate and clean up Copilot’s fragmented experience across Microsoft’s suite of applications. By directing all users to a single entry point via the app bar, Microsoft aims to provide a more consistent and unified experience when accessing Copilot features within Teams.
This change reflects Microsoft’s ongoing efforts to refine how AI assistants like Copilot are integrated into its productivity tools. The company has been adjusting Copilot’s presence across various applications to reduce confusion and provide clearer navigation paths for users. Users currently relying on the chat list shortcut will need to use the Teams app bar instead after the October rollout.
