Gameplay Screenshot of Ubisoft’s Canceled ‘Project U’ Leaks Online

A gameplay screenshot from Ubisoft’s canceled multiplayer game “Project U” has leaked online via social media, offering a rare glimpse into an abandoned project. The image was shared by X user Kran, who questioned whether posting it would violate their non-disclosure agreement.

Project U was designed as a player-versus-environment (PvE) title with an unconventional format: ten teams of four players would compete simultaneously against progressively more difficult enemies while advancing through different map zones. The game underwent significant restructuring in late 2024 as Ubisoft reassessed the viability of PvE experiences, but the company ultimately canceled the project in early 2026 during broader corporate restructuring, concluding it had failed to achieve the necessary fun factor for release.

The leak highlights Ubisoft’s ongoing struggles with game portfolio development and reflects broader industry challenges in identifying successful multiplayer concepts. It also raises questions about digital preservation and how cancelled projects sometimes resurface through leaks despite NDAs.
