Wolverine Now Boots On PC Thanks To PS5 Emulation

Marvel’s Wolverine, the PlayStation 5 exclusive developed by Insomniac Games, has successfully booted on PC through community-driven PS5 emulation efforts, marking a significant milestone for the emulation community. The achievement was demonstrated in a video posted online over the weekend, showing the game reaching its main menu and interface on a personal computer.

The emulation feat was accomplished remarkably quickly, taking less than two weeks from initial emulation work. The demonstration PC utilized an AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 8-core processor paired with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 graphics card—high-end gaming hardware designed for demanding applications.

However, the current state of emulation remains far from playable. Performance metrics are severe, with the game’s menu achieving a maximum frame rate of 15 frames per second and averaging only 2 FPS during operation. These performance levels fall well below the 60 FPS standard expected for modern gaming experiences, making the game unplayable in its current emulation state.

While this represents an important technical achievement for the emulation community, it demonstrates both the possibilities and limitations of current PS5 emulation technology. The successful boot proves that reverse-engineering efforts are progressing, though significant optimization work remains before Wolverine or other PS5 titles could run at playable frame rates on PC through emulation.
