Real Madrid Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois’s Firm Invests in Astralis
Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has expanded his investment portfolio into esports, with his investment firm NXTPLAY acquiring a stake in Astralis through the Fusion Esports Group ownership consortium. Astralis, one of esports’ most storied organizations with four Counter-Strike Major championships, has been under Fusion Esports Group’s ownership since September 2025.
Courtois founded NXTPLAY alongside CEO Gonzalo Vila to manage diversified investments across multiple sectors. The firm now holds stakes spanning professional football, motorsports, and lifestyle brands. In football, NXTPLAY owns positions in Belgian club KRC Genk and French club Le Mans FC. The investment group also holds a stake in the Sierra Racing Club, an E1 Series racing team, alongside non-sporting investments in consumer brands including Oakberry superfood bowls and STAMP, a tax-free shopping platform.
The investment represents growing mainstream interest in esports organizations from high-profile athletes and established figures. Courtois joins a growing list of sports personalities diversifying into gaming investments, signaling the sector’s continued maturation and institutional acceptance. The move strengthens Astralis’s financial position while demonstrating how esports teams are attracting investment from major global figures beyond traditional gaming venture capital.
