‘The Train Isn’t Stopping’ — Diablo 4 Director Promises the Game Will Still Receive Support Well After Diablo 5 Launches
Blizzard has assured Diablo 4 players that the game will continue receiving support well after Diablo 5’s launch, addressing fan concerns sparked by the sequel’s announcement at BlizzCon 2026.
Diablo 5 was officially revealed with a cinematic teaser and a 2029 release date, depicting a world of desolation set approximately 100 years after Diablo 4’s events. While the announcement generated excitement for the franchise’s future, it also worried existing players about the fate of Diablo 4, which launched in 2023.
Brent Gibson, director of Diablo 4, responded to these concerns by confirming the game will maintain its seasonal content schedule even after Diablo 5 releases. This approach mirrors the ongoing support model for previous entries in the franchise, with Diablo 2 and Diablo 3 continuing to receive updates years after their releases.
The assurance represents a continuation of Blizzard’s live-service strategy for the Diablo franchise, indicating the publisher intends to support multiple entries simultaneously rather than abandoning older titles. Gibson emphasized that the announcement represents no threat to Diablo 4’s longevity, signaling the company’s commitment to maintaining its existing player base while building toward the next generation of the series.
The news comes as Blizzard continues expanding its flagship franchises, with the publisher also announcing a new StarCraft game scheduled for 2030 at the same event.
