Game of Thrones Movie Aegon’s Conquest Sets 2029 Release Date With Director Owen Harris
Warner Bros. has officially announced the first theatrical film in the Game of Thrones franchise. Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest will arrive in cinemas on June 9, 2029, adapting material from George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, a companion novel chronicling the history of House Targaryen and the events of Aegon’s conquest of Westeros.
Owen Harris directs the film from a screenplay by Beau Willimon, a veteran writer known for creating and writing Netflix’s acclaimed political thriller House of Cards and for his work on Lucasfilm’s Andor series, including the highly regarded jailbreak episode “One Way Out.” Harris brings established expertise to the project, having previously directed three episodes of HBO’s A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms series: “The Hedge Knight,” “Hard Salt Beef,” and the action-heavy “In the Name of the Mother,” which featured the brutal Trial by Combat sequence.
This marks a major expansion of the Game of Thrones media empire beyond its original HBO television series, representing the franchise’s debut in theatrical cinema and expanding the storytelling possibilities within the Westeros universe.
