Thieves stole two Nvidia-emblazoned truck trailers in the hopes of getting hardware and instead got 40,000 lbs of sand

Thieves targeting two Nvidia-branded trailers from autonomous vehicle software company PlusAI got an ironic surprise: 40,000 pounds of sand instead of high-value computing hardware.

The theft was discovered when a PlusAI executive received a message from an acquaintance noting they had spotted two company trucks parked near their workplace, located about half a mile from where the vehicles were supposed to be. The criminals had made a critical miscalculation.

Having assumed that any trailer bearing the Nvidia logo would contain valuable electronics, the thieves instead found themselves with a large quantity of sand. The incident highlights the risks of targeting vehicles based solely on their branding and serves as a reminder that assumptions about a company’s cargo can prove costly—especially for would-be thieves.
