This new super-bright 500 nit ‘inkjet’ tech promises to fix OLED’s full-screen brightness limitation
TCL CSOT, a Chinese manufacturer, has introduced a new generation of inkjet-based OLED panel technology that addresses one of the primary limitations of OLED displays: full-screen brightness. The technology derives from innovations originally developed by JOLED, a now-defunct Japanese OLED specialist.
The new inkjet OLED panels promise full-screen brightness capabilities of 500 nits, a significant improvement over current OLED display standards. This advancement is particularly relevant for PC monitors, where full-screen brightness has been a notable constraint for OLED technology. MSI has already introduced the first PC monitor utilizing TCL CSOT’s inkjet-print OLED panels, and the manufacturer has now announced an even brighter next-generation iteration.
The development represents a meaningful step toward making OLED technology more viable for applications requiring consistent, high brightness across the entire display. However, burn-in remains an ongoing concern for large OLED displays that manufacturers will need to address as the technology matures and sees wider adoption.
