The Witcher 3 surges to its highest Steam concurrent player-count ever, following Remastered edition’s release

CD Projekt’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has shattered its all-time concurrent player record on Steam following the launch of its Remastered edition. The 11-year-old RPG reached a new peak of over 114,000 concurrent players, surpassing its previous record of 103,329 set in January 2020 when the Witcher television series premiered.

The Remastered edition, which arrived ahead of the upcoming Songs of the Past expansion, features enhanced visuals and new gameplay additions that have reignited interest in the 2015 Game of the Year. Just days into the release, the game’s concurrent player count has climbed to approximately 116,000-120,000 players and continues to rise, positioning The Witcher 3 as the ninth most-played game on Steam.

The surge represents a massive turnaround in player engagement. In the month preceding the Remastered release, only around 31,959 concurrent players were active, highlighting the dramatic impact of the remaster announcement and launch. These figures account only for Steam players and do not include concurrent users on alternative PC platforms like GOG and the Epic Games Store, nor console players on PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch 2.

The timing of the Remastered edition’s success demonstrates the enduring appeal of The Witcher 3 franchise, even as the gaming industry has shifted significantly since the game’s original release. The update shows that classic titles can still capture massive player bases when given substantial visual and gameplay upgrades, and suggests strong anticipation for the Songs of the Past DLC.
