The Witcher 3 Songs of the Past sounds like it’s mirroring Blood and Wine in being “a lot dreamier” than a “bread-and-butter Witcher story”

CD Projekt Red released The Witcher 3: Remastered on September 29th, 2026, bringing updated graphics and gameplay improvements to the acclaimed RPG. The remaster includes a significant overhaul to the combat system, which the developers identified as the original game’s weakest component. According to CD Projekt Red’s Paweł Sasko, the team carefully evaluated what aspects of the classic title needed modernization.

In tandem with the remaster’s launch, CD Projekt Red has begun revealing details about the expansion “Songs of the Past,” which is scheduled for release in 2027. The expansion will adopt a notably different tonal approach from the main Witcher 3 experience, embracing what developers describe as “a lot dreamier” storytelling—a stylistic choice that mirrors the successful Blood and Wine DLC. Rather than delivering a traditional “bread-and-butter Witcher story,” Songs of the Past aims to showcase “another side” of the character Dandelion, the flirty bard from the original narrative.

The decision to extend Dandelion’s story beyond the already-acclaimed conclusion of Blood and Wine represents an ambitious creative direction for the studio. CD Projekt Red has maintained relative secrecy about story details, though these recent disclosures suggest the team is committed to exploring more experimental narrative territory with the expansion. The tonal shift toward dreamier, more imaginative storytelling sets Songs of the Past apart from traditional Witcher 3 content and positions it as a unique continuation of the franchise.
