XBOX Disc-to-Digital Upgrade Available For All Users

Microsoft has launched its disc-to-digital feature globally across all Xbox consoles, enabling players to convert physical game discs into digital licenses that work across the Xbox ecosystem. The feature allows users to insert game discs into any Xbox console with an optical drive and unlock digital entitlements accessible on any Xbox platform.

The program supports over 1,500 games at launch, though not all titles are eligible. Microsoft has indicated that eligibility may expand over time. However, the company has not published an official compatibility list, leaving players to rely on community-generated lists to determine which titles are supported.

The feature rolled out following a testing period with Xbox Insiders and launched without advance notice via the official Xbox social media accounts. Some users reported needing to restart their consoles to access the feature immediately, though engineer Eden Marie confirmed it should work automatically.

This initiative represents a significant step forward in game preservation, as it bridges the gap between physical media ownership and digital licensing while protecting players’ existing physical game libraries from becoming obsolete.
