28 Years Later Part 3 ‘Will Get Made,’ Danny Boyle Insists — and Cillian Murphy Will Be in It ‘A Lot’
Director Danny Boyle has confirmed that the third installment of the 28 Years Later zombie horror franchise will be made, despite recent box office underperformance. Speaking at the Zurich Film Festival, Boyle stated that the third film “will get made because people keep asking about it,” though he acknowledged uncertainty about timing. Alex Garland, who wrote the original 28 Days Later and both installments in the recent 28 Years Later trilogy, has already completed the script for the untitled third entry.
Sony greenlit the third film in December 2024, just before the release of the second installment, The Bone Temple. However, The Bone Temple failed to perform well at the box office, raising questions about the franchise’s commercial viability. Despite these commercial challenges, the filmmakers appear committed to completing the planned trilogy. Boyle has expressed interest in directing the third film. Cillian Murphy, who starred in the previous entries, is expected to have a significant role in the concluding chapter.
