Ordering DoorDash Is Too Hard, So an AI Agent Will Soon Be Able to Order Pizza for You

DoorDash announced a new AI-powered ordering feature designed to streamline the food delivery process by allowing customers to simply text their orders. Users can message an AI agent through iMessages describing what they want for dinner, eliminating the need to scroll through restaurants, browse menus, and make decisions themselves.

The AI agent works by analyzing user text descriptions and searching through available restaurants in the customer’s area to generate personalized recommendations. The system leverages each user’s complete order history and stated preferences to suggest meals that align with their past choices and current needs. This approach addresses a common pain point in food delivery services: decision fatigue when faced with numerous restaurant and menu options.

Currently, the feature is exclusively available on iOS through iMessage, though DoorDash has announced that Android support will arrive at a future date. This development reflects a broader industry trend of integrating conversational AI into consumer-facing services to reduce friction and simplify user interactions. Rather than relying on customers to navigate platforms independently, companies are increasingly delegating decision-making processes to AI agents, betting that users will prioritize speed and convenience over exploration and choice.
