Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is getting a Counter-Strike-inspired game mode that I can’t believe it never had before

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is introducing Collateral, a new competitive multiplayer mode inspired by Counter-Strike and Valorant’s economy-based gameplay systems. The mode builds on the series’ traditional Search and Destroy format by incorporating a cash economy where players must purchase weapons and equipment using in-game currency earned during matches.

This represents a more authentic take on bomb-defusal shooters compared to traditional Search and Destroy. Pre-made loadouts are disabled, and every death and purchase decision carries strategic weight and consequences, mirroring the tactical depth of Counter-Strike’s Bomb Defusal mode and Valorant’s round economy. The mode is designed to appeal to the competitive scene with mechanics stripped of typical Call of Duty features in favor of strategic economy management.

Alongside the Collateral announcement, Modern Warfare 4 is receiving significant PC-specific technical improvements. These include over 800 customization options, a built-in performance benchmark, and support for cutting-edge graphics technologies like DLSS 4.5 and AMD FSR Redstone. These enhancements demonstrate Activision’s focus on optimizing the game across different hardware configurations.
