GTA 6: Rockstar Developers Visited Strip Clubs and Rode Around at Night With Ex-Cops to Get First-Hand Florida Experience
Rockstar Games has disclosed the extensive field research methods its developers employed while creating Grand Theft Auto 6. According to Rupert Humphries, senior vice president of narrative at Rockstar, the studio conducted comprehensive experiential research throughout Miami and South Florida to authentically capture the region’s character and cultural nuances.
The research activities included visits to strip clubs and nightclubs, time spent on beaches, in the Everglades, and exploring the Florida Keys. Developers also conducted nighttime rides through various neighborhoods accompanied by former law enforcement officers, gaining real-world perspectives on the areas being depicted in the game.
“We go and try to experience everything,” Humphries said, emphasizing the studio’s commitment to immersive research. This hands-on approach reflects Rockstar’s established philosophy of detailed world-building that has defined the Grand Theft Auto franchise.
While Rockstar has recreated Florida locations in previous GTA titles, the developer has indicated that this iteration represents a more thorough and nuanced approach to capturing the region’s diverse environments and cultural authenticity.
