The Witcher 3 Remastered PS5 Pro Performance Seems to Vary Massively Between Players, and No One Knows Why
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered, released as a free update for existing PS5 owners, is experiencing inconsistent performance issues on PlayStation 5 Pro hardware—but the problems appear to vary significantly between players with no clear cause identified.
According to a Push Square review, the remaster’s performance on PS5 Pro remains largely stable in most cases, with one notable exception: periodic hitching that occurs specifically during autosaves. This same autosave-related stuttering was present in the 2022 Complete Edition, suggesting it may be a persistent technical quirk rather than a new issue introduced by the remaster.
However, some players report more severe performance problems on their PS5 Pro consoles, while others experience smooth gameplay without issues. This inconsistency has left the gaming community puzzled, as there’s currently no clear explanation for why the remaster’s performance varies so dramatically between individual players’ systems. The lack of obvious pattern—whether related to console firmware, installation state, or other variables—has made troubleshooting difficult.
The free update has otherwise been well-received, preserving the acclaimed RPG experience while targeting enhanced performance on newer PS5 Pro hardware. The persistent autosave stuttering and sporadic performance issues, however, suggest that CD Projekt Red may need to investigate further optimization for the PS5 Pro, particularly in identifying what conditions trigger performance problems for affected players.
